We were more than happy with the house, comfortable, clean accommodation in a great location.
However the check in was anything but smooth. I emailed the holiday homes contact email the day before as I had not received any check in details. By three o'clock on the day of check-in we had still not received any details. We then drove out to the property hoping the owner lived nearby. During this time we kept ringing the number provided by holiday houses as a contact number. It was disconnected. We then asked neighbours if they had any contact details, we got told that possibly the owners lived at a property down the road, we tried this house and waited there for a while, nobody was around. We then tried another neighbour who thought that another person in the neighbourhood maybe able to help as she used to clean the house. Eventually after four hours of using our detective skills we managed to track down a lock code to gain entry for the property. This ruined an afternoon of our short getaway, this property is in a location
where there isn't a great deal of other accommodation options and both my husband and son were pretty stressed. We also felt extremely weird receiving a lock code for a property but without having any contact with owners, we felt a little like we were trespassing.
We booked this property on the 17 th of April and our first night was on the 21st so it wasn't short notice.
The owner/caretaker or whoever was responsible for looking after the property is located in Hong Kong, he finally made contact via email at 3 am the following morning. He offered to pay for any accommodation costs we had incurred for the night but we were lucky that we had managed to find a way to access the property using local knowledge.
We can't fault the house, it was awesome but in all my years of renting holiday homes off various platforms I have never had such a shocking and stressful experience.
