A recent review: "The property is exactly as described on the site - close to Hokitika however offering a unique combination of rural lifestyle, privacy, stunning views, and a sense of homely and comfortable living among many treasures collected over the years. This special property offers a chance for a genuine NZ experience often not accessible to most travellers. We will highly recommend this special property and its committed owners. Enjoy! "

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

Hokitika is the perfect place to base yourself while exploring the West Coast. All the best attractions are only a short drive away including: Franz Joseph Glacier, Punakaiki blowholes, Hokitika Gorge (take insect repellent!), Lake Kaniere, Hokitika Treetop Walkway and Shantytown. Hokitika is famous for it's pounamu (jade/greenstone) carving and there are many local galleries showcasing the beautiful stone. There are many easy bush walks close to our house, the closest winds through an old goldmine site dating back to the 1800's. Take a walk through Hokitika town and see some of the sights mentioned in the Booker Prize winning author, Eleanor Catton's book, The Luminaries. There are lots of wonderful places in town to eat: grab a pizza from Fat Pipi Pizza, try some fine dining at Stations Inn or a beautiful pub meal at the Kaniere Hotel. Fish & chips on the beach is another great option. Visit the local jade carving studios. Check out the massive eels at the Kiwi Centre and of course see the kiwi. You really need at least two days in Hokitika to see most of the attractions.
