This lovely 1870's two room school house offers two large rooms, with high ceilings and large north facing windows. A small, functional kitchen is available with a gas cooker and a range of coffee making gear. There is a large, flat entry shower, plus two separate toilets. There is one inside bedroom, plus a separate outdoor sleep out. For a group there are additional beds in the lounge (which can be closed off to make private sleeping space). All beds have electric blankets. The house is heated with a wood burner. For larger groups staying longer, an additional fridge is available. You will hear and see many New Zealand native birds including bellbirds and fantails. There is plenty of room to kick a ball around, an onsite tennis court, plus a community swimming pool open during the summer months (for a small donation). Feel free to turn the music up inside, you will not disturb the neighbours who are some distance away. Vodafone cell phone access only. One pet is ok, but there is stock in paddocks right next to house, so they need to be controlled at all times. Heaps of parking on site.

This is a great place to base yourself to explore Southland, The Caitlins and Central Otago. It is exactly one hour from Dunedin airport and two hours to Queenstown or Wanaka. Locally, there is cycling (right on the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail), fly-fishing, jet-boating and golfing (four country golf courses within an hour). You can even pan for gold. The nearest shop is 23 km away, so bring your own food. The local Beaumont pub is a 10 minute walk and does a mean fish and chips, plus offers great country hospitality.
