About this Holiday House

For a relaxing escape, Gore Bay rocks! “Hilltop Rocks” is a small private 2-bedroom holiday home situated on the Cathedral hill above Gore Bay – positioned for all day sun. It’s sited in an acre of garden with olive grove, fruit trees and loads of bird life – dawn chorus is fabulous. It’s perfect for a couple to unwind and relax but can fit the small family or friends. The house is fully insulated with open plan living and fully equipped kitchen. Generous sundeck, garden, lawn and easy outdoor flow makes a great setting for relaxing all year due to the local micro-climate. Being rural means no light pollution, so the night sky is wide and star-filled, great for photography and general star gazing especially when soaking in the outdoor bath. Walking distance to beaches for swimming, surfing, rock pools, surf casting, dolphin and seal spotting, walking on the beaches or in the surrounding reserves. Easy drive/cycle to Hurunui river and mouth for swimming, kayaking and fishing, or Cheviot for Golf, mountain biking and cafes. For longer stays, Gore Bay is central to Kiakoura, Hamner Springs and the wine growing Waipara area, all just an hour’s drive away. We’re in the process of slowly improving things so you may see signs of this. The property was part of a market garden renowned for its winter tomatoes, the remains of the old glass house and burner are testament to this. Canterbury, South Island.

Fly-fishing spots can be found along the river and surf casting at the mouth.

We had a lovely stay at Hilltop Rocks and were lucky in April to have perfect weather. The place is well equipped and modern and the surrounding gardens are beautiful and we were able to pick some apples to eat. Highly recommended.
