About this Holiday House
Built circa 1930's, "Aunty's" has been our home for over a decade. We've now opened it up for holiday makers, families visiting the area, whanau visiting whanau, workers who are contracting and person(s) overnighting. Staying here, for some, might feel like you are visiting one of the auntie's houses - and perhaps for others, it'll be a home-away-from-home. It's a humble space and well loved. Although it isn't a modern home, if you love older, well-used, character houses with old charm, then this is the place for you.
You'll feel very safe here as the property is partially fenced and when the house gate is locked it is very secure. The surrounding commercial and industrial properties are gated and locked after hours, some with security cameras. The next door neighbour generally keeps an eye on anyone coming or going as well.
"Aunty's" is a sweet and comfortable character bungalow nestled in the commercial, industrial and nearby farming sector of Kaitaia. The Warehouse, McDonalds, Mitre 10 and Pak-n-Save (Kaitaia's largest grocery story) are only a short 5 minute stroll away. The actual house is set back off the main road, with only one residential neighbour, so although you're right in town, it's very private.
The property has a large back section for kids to run around and play.
The home's convenient location makes it an ideal base to explore all the area has to offer. Easily navigate to all the hotspots such as the west coast - 90 Mile Beach and Ahipara, the east coast - Mangonui, Karikari Peninsula, Matai Bay and the northern tip - Cape Reinga, Taputuputu, Spirits Bay. The hospital is only a short drive away and Kaitaia's main centre is only 3-5 minutes drive.
The house is set up for you to just come in and stay, you'll just need to bring your own food, clothing and personal effects. The galley style kitchen is furnished with all the kitchen utensils and crockery you may need with a new gas hob, electric oven. When the weather is nice, there is seating out on the back deck for alfresco dining.
There is a new washing machine and an outside clothesline. The laundromats are only a 3-5 minute drive away in the main centre of town should you require a dryer in wetter weather.
The house consists of 4 bedrooms set up as a King, 2 Queens and a set of bunk beds.
All linens and towels are provided including some beach towels.
The 3 bay garage and lean to on site is not available to be used and will be locked. However, there is ample parking on the driveway and room for a boat or jet-ski or float.
There is a garden hose to wash down your vehicle or boat and a filleting bench set up near the back garden. Please note you will need a headlamp if you are filleting at night.
We do not live on site but we live fairly close. I am happy to discuss any of your sightseeing interests and can happily offer recommendations on places to eat and must see's while you're visiting the beautiful Far North.
Things to note:
There is no WIFI available at this time. I may be able to arrange something if it is for a stay of more than 3 nights as my own modem is portable. WIFI is being installed in the very near future.
The bedroom with the bunk beds does not have drapes so potentially little ones may be up with the sun!
The lounge has a heat and a/c pump. Unfortunately the wood burner is out of action so cannot be utilised.
No smoking or vaping inside - please use the outdoor spaces. Ashtrays provided.
The soft toys and squish mallows in the bunk room may/or may not be there at the time of booking. However, there are an assortment of board games provided.
