About this Holiday House
Located in the Hakatere Conservation Park between two large glacial lakes, and only 1 3/4 hours drive from Christchurch, the batch is a great place to kick back and relax.
Got kids? you will find plenty of indoor games, playgrounds, and canoes to keep them occupied.
The bach has 360 degree views with big windows looking out to all the mountains. Very warm and sunny. Ideal for a winter getaway, as the open plan living area is so warm. You can watch the snow flurries float past the windows.
Sleeps 10: Unlike other Bach's in the village there is room to move - ideal for two families. There are 2 double bedrooms with queen beds in each (Private and separate to other rooms) and 2 bunk rooms, one with 1 set of bunks, the other, two sets of bunks.
Self sufficient, and remote, and yet with most of the comforts of town. Using solar and wind energy to provide power, and tank water for the kitchen and bathroom areas, you will have an eco-friendly experience. A new Bathroom with shower and flush toilet is also provided.
Lake Camp is used for motor sports and swimming.
Lake Clearwater has a good biking trail going around the whole lake. As a protected lake you can do nonpowered activities like fishing, windsurfing, canoeing, and plant or bird spotting. You may even see the Crested Grebe as it often nests on this lake. The island in the middle of the lake can be canoed to and there are landing beaches where you can get out and see the alpine plants.
There is a 10-minute stretch of metal road as you leave Mt Somers and reach the mountains. This is suitable for a city car to travel on, and the road is well maintained. During heavy snow the graders come up and clear the road (as there is a farm beyond the batch village).
