Catholic Outdoor Club
Mountain Retreat, Bunk House, Arthur's Pass
The Club House is situated on Sunshine Tce (behind Police Station, south of Rough Creek) in Arthur's Pass Township. It is an ex railway house that backs onto the native bush on the flanks of Mt Bealey.
It consists of 3 bunkrooms (6 bunks/room), community room/kitchen area, 2 shower rooms, 2 flush toilets, carport, community water and sewer services and camping area.
The House is insulated, carpeted, fully furnished, and heated with electric black heat ceiling heaters. We don't have TV, and radio reception is poor. Entertainment consists of playing board games, cards and good old conversation!
The Catholic Outdoor Club Inc was formed through the enthusiasm and support of people representing various interests such as family, school, nature and tramping. The main project of the Club has been the establishment of the Club House at Arthur's Pass. The building (originally leased from the Crown) was totally refurbished through the efforts of voluntary work teams, the financial support of Club members and generous donations of fittings and materials. The house and land were purchased by the Club in 1998 with funds accumulated from rental and donations.
