3 bedroom Cottage for 6 guests in Kumara Township.This unique 1876 Heritage Gold Miners Cottage has been faithfully maintained by our family in the traditional style of the colonial era with antiques of that period. Stay in comfort but be prepared to Step back in time to appreciate our pioneering families way of life. With parlor (lounge) & musical instruments. No TV but board games cards & family entertainment. in 1876 teens & adults didnt need internet for entertainment so there are none in this cottage. Shower over claw foot bath. Mangle wringer over twin concrete tubs all in working order. A scullery ( now called a kitchenette) with jug toaster, electric elements Microwave Fridge ( all hidden away out of sight to maintain the cottages historic feel) Maintained & preserved for future generations. this Idyllic colonial cottage is not a replica but an original home. The land was first purchased by our pioneering family back in 1876 when they arrived to stake a claim during the Kumara Gold Rush they purchased land & worked as Gold Miners for many years. Now into the 6th generation West Coast family our historical records are available to read. The cottage is only intended for use by those people that are interested in and can appreciate colonial buildings and history. it is not intended just as a tourist bed for the night but for a week as an experience of colonial life. We hope you enjoy our families heritage holiday home.

Center of Township in quiet area, Beautiful Sunsets from the Cottage verandah there is nothing so amazingly peaceful as watching the sun going down on the West coast or interesting watching bicycle riders on West Coast Wilderness trail biking right past our front door on their first leg of trail ride from Greymouth to Kumara, Walk to hotel or Cafe Restaurant for meals or prepare food in your own kitchenette . Faithfully restored (without compromising the integrity of the origional building c1876) This 3 bedroom cottage suitable for either a couple or larger group

West Coast Wilderness Trail Bike ride goes past our doorway. Enjoy walks around this historic Gold Mining township of Kumara Gold Rush began 1876 & Gold Mining has continued to this day in the area. Try your hand at gold prospecting or visiting dredge site, the old old fluming area, the pioneer bathing area & the Londonderry Rock 10 minute walk. Walkways thru Kumara gold tailing area takes from 20 minutes to 40 minutes on maintained bush walking trail . Visit historic Stafford & Goldsborough Waimea Stafford Loop Track. Kapitea Reservoir / Dillmans Dam for boating, visit Dillmanstown or day trip to Lake Moana, Brunner, Ivey Bay or Hokitika Gorge Walkway 60km Greymouth Shantytown . It was a great experience staying in the cottage. Beautifully set out and was interesting looking at all of the items. Was really nice to arrive on dark and have the heater and light on. Would stay again if I was in the area. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work.
