About this Holiday House

Instead of using this website you could email enquiries for stays to "stengs.nz@gmail.com". Last minute phone enquiries are also welcome, either 03 7687741, 0278858012 or 0273903891. Our chalet is nestled in native bush 70 metres above sea level on the coast, in a quiet and peaceful setting, 8 km north of Greymouth on the west slopes of the Twelve Apostles Range. There are magnificent views of the sea and bush, with great sunsets. It is a two storey house on poles, with the kitchen/lounge, main bedroom and bathroom all on the lower floor. To get inside you first have to walk across a footbridge. Sliding glass doors, overlooking the sea, open onto the outside deck from both the bedroom and lounge. An upper loft is reached by climbing a vertical ladder next to the front door. This 5 x 3 metre room can be used as either an extra bedroom that will sleep 3-4 people by unfolding the couch to make a double bed and putting out 2-3 matresses. Alternatively it can be used as an extra lounge from which to admire the view of the sea. You can also look at the gallery photos to obtain an idea of the setting and what the inside looks like. Cleaning is included in the price.

Special Amenities

We are 10 minutes drive from Greymouth and shops, via the suburb of Cobden. Both the beach and the start of the Point Elisabeth Track are within easy walking distance. The track passes through coastal forest to a lookout at Point Elizabeth and continues to Rapahoe. In nearby Greymouth there is an art gallery, museum and several restaurants. The historical village of Shantytown is 30 minutes drive. There are numerous other places within an hour's drive from where you can enjoy the scenery, go on easy walks, fishing, hunting or tramping, including Lake Brunner and Punakaiki Rocks.

Special Attractions and Activities Nearby

Surfcasting, walks and collection of rocks as well as drift wood can be undertaken from the nearby beach. The Point Elizabeth walkway starts from the beach below our chalet and runs through lush coastal forest of sub tropical appearance. From the lookout at the Point(1.5 hours walking return) see rock stacks, spectacular coast and mountain views. NZ fur seals and Hectors dolphins are also present. Another option is to continue to walk to Rapahoe (2 hours one way).
