We walk to golf, the lake, park, the shops etc Perfect for watersports, golf, mountain biking, hiking or just a relaxing weekend. Once a thriving town due to the construction of the many dams in the area and the forestry industry. It is now a small and quiet lakeside village and has become more popular with holiday makers and tourists alike. Mangakino is the perfect place to enjoy the stunning lake and forest scenery, great for watersports, golf, mountain biking and hiking or just a relaxing weekend away. Have a relaxing summer picnic lunch or dinner on the shores of Lake Maraetai while watching the thrills and spills of the wakeboarders out on the water. The lake also reaches comfortable temperatures for swimming during summer. You can also hire mountain bikes and kayaks at the lakefront. The perfect spot for hiking and mountain biking, the Waikato River Trails run along from the Mangakino lakefront to the Whakamaru Dam and features a 70 metre suspension bridge across the Waikato River, 4km from the Mangakino end of the trail. Hiking in the Pureora Forest is also popular, particularly the renowned Timber Trail. You will need a car to get here. There is no public transport.
